The European bracelet count at the 2008 World Series of Poker hit 10 today when Martin Klaser of Germany won event 43, the $1,500 pot-Limit Omaha eight-or-better, to bring the German tally to three. Italy is currently second among European countries with two wins. Last year Europeans won just six bracelets.
The full list of European winners, the events they won, and their first prize payouts is:
No 43 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Eight-Or-Better: Martin Klaser (Germany) - $216,249

With 12 events still to be decided there is plenty of scope for further European winners including the $10,000 main event. It is seven years since a European last won the main event at the Series when Carlos Mortensen took down the most prestigious title in world poker. But whatever happens 2008 will rightly be remembered as a year of superb European performances.
